  5. ADHD – Referrals to NHS will only be accepted if there is evidence of problems from age under 12 ie primary school, with marked difficulties in focus, completing tasks, restlessness, impulsiveness, & in more than one site ie in school/work/home.
  6. ASD - Referrals to the NHS for assessment of adults for Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have increased significantly recently. Referrals will only be accepted if there is significant mental illness, significant functional impairment and/or significant risks due to mental disorder.   7. CAMHS – Schools refer for all ADHD or Autism assessments. GP Referrals for these concerns are NOT ACCEPTED by CAMHS. This is because the teachers see your child every day for long periods whereas the GP may only have had 10 minutes contact. CAMHS have stated this means that the school is much better placed to describe any concerns re ADHD or ASD to allow more chance of assessment/diagnosis. Please approach your child’s teacher if you are worried about this.
